The OTP-Alive method to erase and reprogram devices which can usually only be programmed once (OTP)
Possible applications:
- Erasing and reprogramming a variety of OTP components, e.g.:
- UPD75Pxxx
- NM27C256xxx
- EP910xx
The programmed memory areas of electronic components employing floating-gate technology (e.g., EPROMs or EPLDs) can be erased with UV-light radiation through an opening in the casing. Due to the housing of OTP components (which lack an opening) erasing those via UV light is impossible after the initial programming process. In the past incorrectly programmed components in stock or purchased had become unusable. The entire component had to be scrapped and replaced.
Using the globally unique OTP-Alive method – after performing an extensive decapsulation – the memory areas requiring erasure are defined and their content is erased. Following a microscopic quality control the component may be reprogrammed, verified and properly re-encapsulated in a special mold mass.
